JOHNNY CAKE STUDIO PRESENTS THE CURRENT WORK OF NORTH AMERICAN ARTIST, MELISSA POPE SCOTT

Melissa Pope Scott is a story teller.  Her original oil paintings are based on North American history and each piece presents a story.  A South Florida native, Pope Scott currently resides in the southeastern coastal town of Darien, Georgia with her husband Bryce Baumgartner, a retired electrical engineer.

Having lived quite the urban life for 50 odd years, moving to the rural deep south in 2003 forced this artist to confront a new reality in the least developed, least populated county of the eastern seaboard.  Pristine, undeveloped natural beauty of the land is not the only inspiration for her art; Pope Scott has found that a desire to understand the soul of the southern people has proven even more inspiring.  Traditions die hard in the deep south, and many things have remained unaltered over 200-plus years......quite a difference from the hustle of richly endowed South Florida, so constantly in flux with the changes that a population of 6 million people from all over the world have wrought.  The struggle to understand a completely different way of living did not come easily yet continues to reward the artist profoundly.

As a result of this examined life, this artist records the truth of the rural experience as she sees it.  Her newest series is entitled, PORTRAIT OF THE DEEP SOUTH.  Enjoy, and be nurtured by, this visit with art.
